The flag of Brunei is rectangular in shape and consists of two main colors, yellow and black. The top half of the flag is yellow, while the bottom half is black. There is a diagonal white stripe running from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of the flag.

In the center of the flag, there is the national emblem, which features a red shield that is divided into five parts. Each part contains one of the traditional symbols of Brunei: a parasol, a pair of upturned wings, two hands holding a crescent, a scroll inscribed with the national motto, and a golden decoration at the bottom.

The yellow color of the flag represents the Sultan of Brunei. They consider him the guardian of the country’s Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy. The black color represents the citizens, while the white diagonal stripe symbolizes the country’s chief minister.

Brunei adopted the current design of its flag on September 29, 1959, when the country was a British protectorate.
