The flag of Burundi consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width: the top and bottom stripes are red, while the middle stripe is green. In the center of the green stripe, there is a large white disk. It has three six-pointed stars arranged in a triangular pattern at its center. The stars are oriented in a way that one of the points of each star is directed towards the center of the disk.

The green color represents hope and the country’s abundant natural resources. The red color represents the country’s struggle for independence and the sacrifice of its people. The white disk and the stars represent the country’s motto of “Unity, Work, and Progress.” They also say the three stars symbolize the three main ethnic groups of Burundi. These are the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa, living together in peace and unity.
