The flag of the country of Dominica consists of a green background field. A centered cross in yellow extends to each of the edges of the flag. The vertical part of the cross is larger than the horizontal part. In the center of the cross is a red circle.
The green color represents the lush vegetation of the island. The yellow stands for the bright sunshine that the country enjoys. The “cross of redemption” refers to the black and white pattern in the center circle. European colonization almost completely wiped out the indigenous people of Dominica, as represented by the pattern.
